One could see the child-like amazement and desire in her eyes. There was no doubt that the young lady was mesmerized by what she was seeing.
Jo, si hiyo ndai ni noma! I wish ni yangu. Si wenyewe hujibamba sana? (Lo, isn’t that car simply astonishing! I wish it’s mine.
Are not its owners really proud?) She exclaimed.
Manzi yangu, hii inaitwa life; kwa wengine, goods kama hizi hukam speedy, inaitwa kismat; kwa wengine kama mimi, mambo ni mosmos, yaani, sembe imeiva na jiko, taratibu na smart. (My girlfriend, this is called life; for some, such goods come quickly; this is called good luck; for others like me, things are gradual, like ugali cooking slowly on a jiko.)
My friend Danny, an ardent rugby enthusiast had requested that I accompany him to a rugby match at the Impala Club grounds. I gladly complied, considering that he usually accompanies me to watch athletics action whenever I ask him. My family being away, I, in fact welcomed Danny’s invitation, hoping to ward off some nail biting bouts of loneliness.
And Danny decided that his newly acquired Mercedes-Benz SLK 280 Roadster was the machine of choice for our outing. Of course, with such accessories as: side-impact air bags, all disc antilock brakes, traction control and an electronic stability system, this car was bound to elicit lots of wows and ahs, immediately it hit the tarmac. We were not disappointed. No sooner had we entered the welcoming gates of the club than we were engulfed in feminine gushes of admiration at every turn.
